WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS EVENTS

VAULT - Each vault is given a specific value dependent on it's difficulty.  The gymnast performs two vaults and the higher of the two scores counts.  Good vault composition should include a strong approach with stretched pre-flight, a good repulsion from the horse, and long after-flight with a solid landing.  Somersaults and twists should be complete before descending to land.  The excellence of the vault selected is judged by the height, control, form and flight exhibited by the gymnasts during the entire vault.

UNEVEN BARS - A routine should be composed of approximately 10 to 14 moves using both bars with changes of directions, including quick hand changes and regrasps.  The sequence of "moves" must be combined to give uninterrupted performance.  An excellent uneven bar routine should be performed vigorously and with great amplitude, show unrestricted swing, continuous movements and precise execution - all done in a seemingly effortless manner.

BALANCE BEAM - A routine must be 1:10 to 1:30 minutes in length.  It is performed on a beam 4' x 16' that is approximately four feet above the floor.  The compositional elements of a beam routine must include coverage of the entire beam, balance and dance performed with tumbling and flexibility skills.  Leaps, jumps and turns should also be included.  The rhythm of a beam routine should be varied but predominantly dynamic and continuous.  The total routine should exhibit the gymnast's ability to be supple, elegant, bold and daring.

FLOOR EXERCISE - The floor exercise must be performed to the accompaniment of music.  The music must be harmonious with the movements of the gymnast and contribute to the expressiveness of the total routine.  The gymnast must cover an area 40' x 40' within a time limit of 1:10 to 1:30 minutes.  The compositional elements that must be present are: dance moves including leaps, jumps and turns, and tumbling moves showing power and flexibility.  These elements must be combined into a routine that expresses and exhibits the gymnast's individual and unique style of interpretation and movements.
